ENGA Governor Sir Peter Ipatas visited Kandep on Thursday and met with MP Alfred Manase, local level government (LLG) presidents and ward councillors in the newly-refurbished LLG chamber funded by the district development authority (DDA).
Sir Peter visited Kandep High School with the Enga health authority (PHA) team where an awareness on the Covid-19 pandemic was carried out.
He said councillors played a crucial role in maintaining law and order in their wards.
He commended councillors in Enga and around the country for their work and called on people to respect and support them.
Sir Peter said health and education were important areas to be developed in the district and thanked Manase and the DDA for their efforts.
He said service delivery was crucial in order for the district to progress and for people’s lives to improve.
Sir Peter said his provincial administration was ready to complement the services and initiatives brought in by DDAs.
He presented funds to schools ranging from K5,000 to K15,000 for them to improve their toilets and water supply in the fight the Covid-19.
Sir Peter also presented K5,000 to Kandep High School for cooks to prepare a special meal for the students.
Manase presented K119,000 to Kandep High School for school fees; he previously gave the school a similar amount. Manase thanked the provincial government, on behalf of the DDA, for its support to improve school and health infrastructure in Kandep.
“Many of the basic government services have deteriorated but the DDA is slowly reviving them,” he said.
Manase said apart from health and education, his plan was to build and maintain roads in the district as well as provide electricity to the district to boost development.
