Situation in North Waghi tense

THE situation on the ground in North Waghi is tense after Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato ordered that only one ballot box from the six disputed be excluded from counting.
Counting for North Waghi had been suspended for two days after candidates and scrutineers wanted Gamato to rescind his decision.
Gamato said there was not enough evidence to prove that all six ballot boxes should be disputed.
He ordered that counting go ahead and only one ballot box from Kendu 1 be set aside.
His decision angered the candidates and the scrutineers who staged a protest march yesterday in Ban, calling for Gamato to sideline returning officer Andrew Kulangie.
