Six clans seal deal

SIX clans from two villages of the Ramu Two Hydro Power Project in Markham, Morobe, on Wednesday witnessed the signing of 1,000 hectares of their land to be used in a K3 billon project construction.
The signing, witnessed by landowners of Yati group, was done at the provincial Lands office in Lae by the Momase regional lands office and a surveyor who surveyed the land.
According to Yati landowner company chairman Nelson Yawising, the signing took place after the landowners themselves helped survey their land.
The surveyed land was portioned and marked on maps ready for developing and to ensure maximum benefits for landowners.
“Many impact projects in the country have seen land being used by developers but the maximum benefits that the landowners were supposed to get were not given because land was given without proper demarcation done,” Yawising said. This leads to developers or the Government not coming up with proper development plans that accommodate landowners.
