Snax Mermaids edged out City Pharmacy Rebels by three points in round five of the Port Moresby Netball Association’s premier competition at the Rita Flynn Courts on Saturday.
It was a tough game but Mermaids had the last laugh, running out 57-54 winners.
Mermaids captain Kila Leka said it was tough playing against the Rebels.
Leka commended her team’s shooters Rayleen Andrew and Jepheth Tulapi for being consistent.
“Our defenders were very good,” she said.
“Our shooters were consistent throughout the match which was the drive behind our win.”
Leka was in the midcourt playing in all four quarters to assist her team to score many goals as they could.
The first quarter had Mermaids leading by one point and the second had them leading 31-29.
The third quarter saw Rebels trailing 44-39.
Rebels’ Serena Ovia tightened their defence in the last quarter but Mermaids got away with the win.
“We lost focus in the last quarter which seemed to be an ongoing thing, so we will work on that at training,” Leka said.
