THE slow response by the provincial health authorities to the Covid-19 response is a concern, an official says.
West New Britain health authority board chairman Dr Mathias Sapuri said when the Covid-19 response started last year, the health authorities were slow to respond.
Dr Sapuri spoke on behalf of the health authorities during a conference on Covid-19 response organised by Health secretary Dr Osborne Liko on Thursday.
“Because of the slowness, we see a lot of processes not moving effectively as they should,” he said.
He said the National Capital District, Western and West New Britain which were affected managed to control the situation by working with the National Control Centre, Health Department and development partners.
He said one of the huge challenges was getting the intensive care unit facilities built in the hospitals.
“Making sure that the public health programmes in the province continue to operate (is another challenge),” he said.
