Smare ‘best positioned’ to lead TCF

ANTHONY Smare has been a director of the Teachers Savings and Loan Society’s (Tisa) Community Finance Ltd (TCF) driving the company forward.
Smare is a lawyer, geologist and entrepreneur and one of the country’s senior business leaders. He is the executive chairman of the private equity firm TrueNorth Capital, with investments in various sectors domestically and abroad, employing more than 2,500 Papua New Guineans.
He is also the non-executive board chairman of Paradise Company Ltd, president of the PNG Chamber of Resources and Energy (PNGCore), and a director of PNG Sustainable Development Company.
TCF is a licensed financial institution focused on providing financial services and products to the retail and commercial segment, including small-medium enterprises.
TCF vice-chairman Michael Koisen said Smare had extensive leadership experience in various sectors including banking, superannuation, investments, insurance, mining, energy, retail, manufacturing, logistics, construction, security, and property.
“Smare has a strong emotional connection to the mission of TCF and Tisa as his mother Josephine was a community schoolteacher and a member of Tisa, teaching in schools for over 30 years.”
Smare has held more than 10 non-executive directorships on many companies over the past 20 years, most notably as chairman of the Nambawan Super Ltd (2012-2019).
Smare has degrees in Law and Applied Science (geology) from the Queensland University of Technology which named him outstanding Alumnus in 2010 and 2014.
He also studied leadership programmes at the universities of Harvard, Oxford, Princeton, Cambridge, Stanford, and Hong Kong.
