SME concept promoted as an economic stumulant

THE people of Bana in South Bougainville have been told that the small and medium-sized enterprise concept can become a successful stimulant for economic growth if it is understood and managed properly.
The message was relayed to the people, especially women, by officers from MP Timothy Masiu’s office.
They were told that the main objective of the SME concept was to assist ordinary citizens earn a living and help develop the economy.
K1 million from the District Support Improvement Programme has been allocated for SME in South Bougainville. Misau’s executive officer, Chris Nawa, said the amount might sound big “but it is not enough for the four districts”.
“Whatever small amount you get can meet family needs if managed properly,” he said.
Consultant Ronnie Ilam said the SME concept would be successful “if you yourself understand it and manage it properly. SME is a stimulant for economic growth”.
The women said they had not been aware of the concept.
They were encouraged to organise themselves and apply for SME assistance for income-generating activities.
