THE small and medium enterprise corporation (Smec) office will be set up in Lae soon to help small businesses owners in the Mamose region.
It’s newly appointed national SME director Fredd Nimme saidhe was ready to establish the office and was looking forward to working in the region.
“It is the national government’s policy to have Smec to help support and provide grants to people in the local or remote areas,” he said.
“Most people today are involved in SMEs and small businesses, and Smec will help them to expand and continue on with their work.
“People need to make money to support themselves, and in a way, they are able to contribute to the economy of the country as well.
Nimme, who was sworn in earlier this month in Port Moresby, said he would be based in Lae to carry out activities in Lae for the Mamose region.
“The real SMEs are in the villages and they need support from their government,” he said.
“We need to reach these simple people, identify their needs, and help them to take part in the economy,” Nimme said.
SME officer for Smec in the Momase region Joe Bonggere said the government was aware that SMEs currently in existence needed assistance for their programmes.
