THE semi-professional National Soccer League is fortunate to have a consistent partner in Telikom PNG, that has sponsored the tournament for the last 12 years.

PNG Sports Foundation chief executive officer Peter Tsiamalili Jr said before the Government started backing soccer, Telikom PNG lived up to its slogan, ‘Always There’,  for the NSL from its infancy.

The consistent investments by corporate partner had made it a success over the years.

He commended franchises owners who had been consistent and believed in the cause.

“Those franchise owners have worked hard to lift the profile of soccer and the profile of country,” Tsiamalili said at the NSL 2015-16 season launching on Wednesday evening.

“There are some franchise owners here tonight (Wednesday), who are consistent and believe in developing soccer in the country.

“Those teams have lifted the profile of the sport and the profile of the country.”

Tsiamalili said the Government was talking about getting the game to the next level, and Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko was adamant that it happened.

Telikom PNG chief executive officer Michael Donnelly said during the launching that sports was becoming an industry.

“The Government invested K1.1 billion on the current world-class stadium,” he said.

Tsiamalili said: “If we want success, it must start with individuals and franchise owners taking ownership of nurturing the sport – soccer.”
