SOCIAL media posts have become one of the main causes for school fights within the city, Don Bosco Secondary School principal Martin Dai says.
“The recent fight between the students in the two schools was from a social media post and this is a concern,” he said.
Dai said social media posts had provoked students to attack other students on the street because they misinterpreted them and lacked the understanding of how to be responsible online users.
“When there is an abuse in the use of social media then students start to fight and attack each other on the streets which is unethical,” he said.
He said the students from Don Bosco Gabutu were not allowed to bring phones into the school because of various reasons including social media use. “Students are banned from bringing mobile phones into our school and going on social media during class time because it is a disturbance to their learning.”
