Softball titles set for Hagen, 32 teams confirmed

THE National Softball Club Championships will be held on Independence weekend in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands.
PNG Softball Federation Ralph Tarasomo confirmed on Tuesday that 32 teams had confirmed their participation.
Tarasomo said the competition would have 18 men’s teams and 14 women’s teams competing.
Men: United Brothers, Yokomo, Bears, Defence (Port Moresby), Manalos, Marlins (Lae) 09ers, Kalibobo Reds, Rovers (Madang), Manalos West, Kopex (Kimbe) Pythons, Kopex ( Gazelle), Overheads, Pirates, Drongos (Mt Hagen) with United Brothers and Bullets of the  Kokopo Softball Association have yet to confirm their attendance.
Women: United Sisters, Bears, Gazelle (Port Moresby), Manalos, Elcees, Stormers (Lae) Rovers, Yamilong (Madang) Reds, Kopex (Kimbe), Pirates, Titans (Mt Hagen).
Men’s and women’s teams from Wewak will be confirmed as soon as their finals are played by the end of this month.
Tarasomo said the Hagen association last hosted a championship in 1999.
He said the PNGSF was working closely with Hagen Softball president and his committee to ensure that the diamonds were secured and prepared to acceptable standard for the tournament.
Clubs were advised to contact Harry Keket, the PNGSF treasurer with regards to the team registration fee of K600. The deadline for payment is September 2.
