Software designed to help NID project

National

The country now has an alternate biometric software to help with the registration of people for the national identification (NID) and electoral roll update.
Computer software designer and entrepreneur Leonard Wanusim, from Telefomin, West Sepik, has designed a software to help collect data for national identification and electoral roll registration.
Wanusim founded Minsoft Technology and Software company after graduating with a Bachelor of Mathematics and Computer Science at University of Technology in 2001.
He has a lot of experience in designing software while working in both public and private sectors.
Minsoft researches and develops software.
It has produced two major products, “biometric software solution” and “PNG Directory”.
“The biometric software is a handheld device and functions from a battery,” Wanusim said.
“It’s basically a mobile phone.
“I bought the device from USA and built the software myself.
“The small, handheld device can capture finger prints, facials, signature, and global positioning system (GPS) location of a person.
“Any form can be built into and it’s locally designed.
“It’s a prototype for election systems and the voter roll.
“The PNG Electoral Commission and Government can give people an opportunity to use such technology.
“They don’t have to go far to look for solutions when we can build it in the country at cheap cost.”
