Soldier charged with assaulting daughter

A SOLDIER was arrested and charged by Madang police on Monday for assaulting his step-daughter in Lae’s Igam Barracks.
Provincial police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said police were alerted by a Facebook post about the assault and insult while she was in Lae.
“Police were informed that the soldier was travelling to Madang and he was arrested in Madang Airport,” he said.
“The soldier is still innocent until the court finds otherwise.
“He was released on K200 police bail.
“Police acted on the Facebook post that went viral.”
Acting Supt Rubiang said police had arrested men who assaulted or insulted their step-children in the past and had called on those men and women who were getting married the second time to men or women who already have children to respect the children of their first marriage.
“We will assess any reports of such and will decide either to allow the parties to compensate the victim, arrest or charge them,” he said.
