Soldiers providing security around country

SOLDIERS from the First Battalion Royal Pacific Islands Regiment (1RPIR) based in Port Moresby are involved in providing security around the country.
Commanding officer Lt-Col Mark Kellerton said 117 soldiers were at the southern border in Western to provide security.
There are 105 soldiers in Porgera, 101 in Hela and 25 in Kikori, Gulf.
“I got the word on Saturday (to send soldiers to Porgera) and 105 of them were told to get their things ready. “They travelled out on Sunday to Porgera,” he said.
“Our primary aim is to provide security for the people.”
Some soldiers are involved in Covid-19 operations in the National Capital District.
Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko said his office planned to upgrade the Taurama Barracks hospital, elementary school and primary school. He said the road to the barracks would also be upgraded.
