AROUND 500kg of medicine and pharmaceutical drugs arrived in Lae last weekend for distribution to soldiers in their area of operation.
Defence Force Ops Natel Task Group Two doctor, Captain Janet Lama said the medical supplies would be distributed to all area of operations under the Task Group Two command which would support troops during the Natel operation.
“The medical drugs have been properly packed.
“Three boxes of medical supplies have been dispatched to Goroka and two boxes to Bulolo by road,” she said.
“The drugs will be used to treat security personnel and the communities the troops are operating in.
“Other areas which are on the list for distribution include Madang, Finschaffen, and other areas,” she said.
However, Lama said the Composite Company operating in the New Guinea Islands and parts of Southern will return this week.
Their medical supplies will be distributed to the remaining areas.
Meanwhile, Lama said all medics had been advised to donate any spare supplies to nearby health facilities, which had assisted them during the times of supply shortages.
“For us in Lae, one of the key health facilities which we got medical supplies from to treat our troops in the past four weeks is the Igam Medical Centre.
“So most of the drugs will be given back to them to replace what has been given out.
“Igam is a big clinic that supports the Defence Academy, Engineer Battalion in Lae.”
