The Papua New Guinea Defence Force has acknowledged, and is fixing, recent discrepancies in salary payments to its service personnel.
Acting chief of defence Commodore Philip Polewara said that they understand the significant impact this issue had on “our valued members and their families and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused”.
“PNGDF is is committed to ensuring its personnel receive their correct entitlements promptly,” he said.
“We are working diligently with key government institutions including the Department of Personnel Management (DPM) and the Department of Finance (DOF) to identify and rectify the cause of these discrepancies as quickly as possible.”
He said that a dedicated team from the personal branch from Murray Barracks have been working with the DPM and DOF to rectify this issue.
“All Annual Recreational Leave and Higher Duties Allowances and other allowances will be put on hold until the three per cent increment and back date process has been completed,” Polewara added.
“Open communication channels have been established with relevant government departments to expedite the resolution process.”
He said PNGDF recognises the importance of maintaining public trust and confidence.
We are committed to transparency throughout this process and will provide regular updates on our progress.
“We value our partnerships with businesses that support our service personnel and their families.”
“We understand that these pay discrepancies may cause financial strain and we are working to resolve the issue.”
Polewara said they are dedicated to the well-being of our personnel and their role in protecting PNG’s national security.
