Soldiers told to be ‘flawless’

SOLDIERS from the First Royal Pacific Island Regiment (1RPIR) in Taurama, Port Moresby, have been urged to ensure their loyalty to the defence force and the country remains flawless.
Regiment commanding officer, Lt-Col Stanley Benny made the call this week, saying the people of Papua New Guinea deserved the best from the defence force.
The call came after a week long workshop at the Taurama-based 1RPIR headquarters training centre where senior non-commissioned officers and several other officers were taught leadership skills so they build back unity in the command and rank and file.
Benny said the Taurama headquarters was the birthplace of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force, which was raised from the Papuan Infantry Battalion and the New Guinea Infantry Battalion.
He said there was a tremendous need to build unity and togetherness to restore the command directives and obedience to instill clear discipline across the command.
He said the workshop was a stepping stone towards that, with more training expected for all service personnel as  they have roles and responsibilities to play.
