A GROUP of 26 cadets from the PNG Defence Academy are undergoing a seven-day exercise in the Leron Plains, Wampar, Huon Gulf, Morobe.

The exercise is to test the cadets on their skill, knowledge and ability to navigate their way during all kinds of weather and across any terrain.

Senior instructor Capt Velmoore Kagena said those who did not make the grade would go through another test.

Cadets will return to Igam Barracks tomorrow for a week of theory sessions before the next field exercise on soldiering skills.

Kagena said the field exercises were funded jointly by the PNG and Australian defence forces.

The Australians helped in the purchase of rations, fuel and other requirements for the field exercises.

Meanwhile, one of the cadets has been selected to undergo his officer training in India.

He is in Port Moresby preparing for his travel.
