Somare hopes for more survivors

GRAND Chief Sir Michael Somare says the sinking of the mv Rabaul Queen early last Thursday off the coast of Finschhafen, Morobe province, is both regrettable and troubling.
“Until we receive more information on the cause of the sinking of the Rabaul Queen, I wish to inform families of those onboard the vessel that we share your anguish and hope that there will be many more survivors,” Sir Michael said.
“I know that the National Maritime Safety Authority does its best to ensure passenger vessels are seaworthy but only a complete report on the sinking of the vessel will tell us the real cause of the accident.”
