South Fly launches Wash plan

A FIVE-year Water Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash) plan was launched for South-Fly, Western, to improve health outcomes and living standards for locals.
Local MP Sekie Agisa said the plan would be vital for locations in Daru to improve infrastructures for urban water and sanitisation.
He said this was because Daru had seen a significant growth in population.
Agisa was speaking at the launch of the first Wash plan in the province on Nov 24.
The plan was supported by the Papua New Guinea-Australia partnership and facilitated by World Vision and South Fly Wash committee.
In a statement by Australian High Commission, it was highlighted that the plan was initiated after challenges faced by communities in the district on access to safe drinking water, sanitisation and hygiene.
Australian High Commissioner Jon Philp said communities would be healthy and productive if they had access to quality water supply, sanitation and hygiene facilities.
“The district and administration should be proud to launch this Wash plan that outlines strategies to the ongoing water and sanitisation challenges,” he said.
