Southern comp attracts 51 teams, more expected

THE Sportz Events Southern Nines rugby league tournament has so far attracted 51 teams who have paid their K1,100 registration fee as of last week.
Sportz Events director Solomon Ravu said only 29 spots remained for those who were interested to compete in the biggest nines tournament at the National Football Stadium from Dec 8-12.
Ravu said last year’s grand finalist Taurama Siporo Magpies had yet to confirm their participation.
“There is no late registration,” he said.
“We discourage this as it only delays the processes.”
Ravu said champions Lako had registered to defend the title.
“This is more than enough and we are all ready to go with teams coming from Central, Western, Gulf and the National Capital District.
“We again warn teams not to field outsiders.
“This tournament is only targeting Southern footballers.
“Some teams have a habit of fielding outsiders and claim that they are part Southern.
“It is shameful to claim that these players are from the region.”
