MORESBY South Blacks and Funeral Home Laumas scored bigs wins in round nine of the Southern Super League at Moresby South Stadium on Friday.
Blacks hammered GRP Western Flames 38-4 and Laumas thrashed Koiari Nagavas 46-10 in one-sided affairs as the two experience teams dominated their opposition from the opening whistles.
Rural sides Flames and Nagavas showed some fighting spirit and toiled away but just did not have the experience and skill level to compete with their opposition in the National gaming Control Board sponsored competition.
The winning margins could have been much larger had Laumas and Blacks took all their opportunities and maintained their intensity throughout.
Blacks winger Joshua Winnie bagged four tries earning himself the man-of-the-match honour.
Winnie credited his halves and inside men as well as full back Junior Hoki for setting him up to score the tries.
He said it was the first time he had scored a four tries in the competition.
“I scored couple of tries in previous matches but today (Friday) is so special for me to pick up four (tries) and hopefully I come up with more.”
Prop Johnny Ephraim easily made metres with every charge and proved a handful for Flames’ defence.
Meanwhile, Laumas may have discovered a genuine speed merchant in Douglas Pirika who outpaced the Nagavas defence for a couple of long range tries. The Baimuru youngster also contributed on defence as well.
