SOUTHS fought back to force a 6-6 draw with Waghi Brothers in a mistake-riddled encounter in the Gerehu Off-season Rugby League in Port Moresby on Friday.
The round-seven clash at the Gerehu Sports Centre saw a lot of dropped balls which resulted in incomplete sets.
Brothers were first to score when Abraham Okun touched down four minutes in after he re-gathered a high kick in Souths’ territory. Hooker Mikes Topints added the extras to help Brothers take a 6-0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw little improvement as both sides struggle to complete their sets.
Despite the handling errors, Souths bounced back with a converted try two minutes into the second half. The remainder of the match was a scoreless affair as both sides struggled to string back-to-back sets.
Brothers coach Tony Kombanginga said this was their fourth draw.
“After the last draw, we are 17th on the ladder. We have only one win. We have one or two more games left before the top-16 teams are finalised,” he said.
“If we can build from here, we will put ourselves in a good position to make the top-16.
“Since next week will be the final game, I urge all our fans to come and support us. Hopefully, we can get a win and make the finals.”
