SOUTH Pacific (SP) Brewery presented a cheque for K25,000 to the Motu Koita Festival Show committee yesterday to support and promote the country’s unique culture.
SP managing director Stan Joyce said regardless of status, the brand Export Lager was culturally grounded to where it was born and brewed in PNG for more than 30 years.
“South Pacific Brewery is dedicated to giving back to our people by supporting cultural festivals and we are pleased to be a part of this year’s Motu Koita Festival,” he said.
“It’s a great idea that we celebrate those festivals and maintain those traditions.”
Meanwhile, Motu Koita Assembly chairman Dadi Toka Jr said the generosity and backing from corporate sponsors like SP Brewery towards a festival that has a long and rich history was exciting.
Toka Jr said the festival would put on display an array of activities, showcasing the best of Motu Koita people.
“We are expecting international tourists and visitors from around the region and country to attend,” he said.
“With continued support from corporate sponsors, the show is getting better and better each year, hence we are grateful to SP Brewery for this partnership.”
Toka Jr said they wanted to do things differently this year.
“We want to make sure the cultural aspect of the event is a major focus, hence we will be hosting the music festival starting this weekend,” he said.
“We will remove commercialisation or modernisation of that event including bands and string bands in the likes of musical events.
“So the Hiri Moale festival in September is purely cultural.”
