TEST results for the Delta variant should be fast-tracked to ensure patients receive correct treatment plans, Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu says.
“I am concerned over the slow testing process to determine and confirm results for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) patients, whether it’s Delta variant or not,” Numu, whose province has so far been one of the worst hit by the Covid-19, said.
“This process must be fast-tracked so the patient can be isolated quickly.
“The longer the wait, the patient has spread the virus to others.”
He appealed to the National Control Centre to speed up the process in order for health authorities in the province to manage the spread of the disease.
“It is only through tests to confirm results so the right treatment is given and we isolate patients sooner so that they are not around to spread the disease,” he said.
Numu appealed to the people of Eastern Highlands to adhere to awareness messages and think of their lives and families.
“Follow the ‘New Normal’, wear a face mask, sanitise and wash hands and practice social distancing, also, get vaccinated to protect against the Covid-19,” he said.
Numu urged intending candidates for next year’s election not to spread incorrect information which would derail efforts to control the virus. “We are in a vulnerable situation, the interest of the people must be the priority,” he said.
“Put aside politics and personal interests and assist in any capacities you can to fight the virus in Eastern Highlands.”
Numu said they needed K16 million to enforce the Covid-19 measures for the province’s 700,000 people.
