THE Komo-Magarima electorate in Hela is the biggest with over a population of over 60,000 and needs to be split in 2017. The PNG electoral boundary commission must consider our social and cultural linkages when doing this. People living in Komo, Bonsai, Hulia, Benalia and Faso of Kutubu share a common boundary and have strong family ties and cultural connections through intermarriages. Clans like Wabiago, Tope, Tamburuma and Tabu in Hulia are also living in Komo, Benalia and Bosavi. This sort of factors must be considered prior to the split. It is okay for these LLGs to be under one electorate while the Upper Wage, Central and Lower Wages can form another. Komo-Magarima hosts the LNG project, but is underdeveloped. Thus, splitting it will promote effective development.
