DIGICEL PNG renewed its sponsorship of the Sparrows Netball Club for 2013.

With a funding of K10,000, this would be the third year that the company is in partnership with the Port Moresby Netballl Association club.

The funding will go towards registration for the club’s different divisions: the Under-13s, U15s, U17s, U21s and the two open teams.

The Sparrows last won a premiership in 1999 but since then have always been among the top four sides every season.

Interim president of the Digicel Sparrows Julienne Leka-Maliaki said that they were grateful for the continued support.

“I know we would have a great working relationship this year and we know our sponsors have expectations too. We want to reach new heights and ensure that we make this year bigger and better,” Maliaki said.

Currently, Sparrows consists of at least 85 members in all its divisions and has produced some of the country’s top netball players.

The Sparrows are one of the 10 teams in the competition.

The club was established in 1999 by Leka and other notable netball personalities in Barbara Stubbings, Gima Rupa and Diane Penrose.
