SPONSOR ID 24 Limited has committed K100,000 to the National Capital District Eastern Highlands Rugby League for the next five seasons.
At the Taurama Barracks in Port Moresby yesterday, company managing director Derrick Mara allocated K20,000 each year. Part of the funds will go towards the ID 24 Cup and Shield.
Mara, raised in Kabiufa, said he owed it to the people of Eastern Highlands for his successes.
“This is where my heart is and I’m doing it in good faith to be the major sponsor of the league for the next five years,” he said.
“I can support any sport, netball or volleyball, if the people of Eastern Highlands want me to do so.
“I owe it to them. I want to give back to them.” Commanding officer Major Ezron Dekaetauara said hosting sporting activities at the Taurama Barracks was part of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force’s community obligation.
“We are proud to help the Eastern Highlands community run their competition,” he said.
League chairman Benny Kene said he was grateful for the sponsorship which will help players develop their skills and become good citizens of the country.
“This is special for the competition,” he said. “Mara has come to the aid of the many talented players in the 26-team competition.
“We have been developing players into quality footballers and the sponsorship will only help our cause.”
