PAPUA New Guinea Sports Foundation have regained their champions status following a 35-29 win over Bank of PNG during the Public Servants Netball Association premier grand final on Saturday.
Skipper Raka Nope said it took a week for the girls to pick up on their fitness and tough training following their narrow win against National Fisheries Authority a fortnight ago.
“All hard work has been paid off, the girls played their best today which was an improved performance from the semifinal we played. BPNG were the better side but we worked extra hard to regain this premiership title,” Nope said.
“It was a tough start in the first two quarters but eventually picked up in the remaining two quarters and tried to keep that pace of leading by a few points until the final whistle was blown,” she said.
Meanwhile, BPNG were graced by PNG Pepes defender Shannaz Apelis who starred in the starting seven as a goal shooter and attacker in the final against the sports foundation.
In other division finals, Internal Revenue Commission-1 defeated Institute of Business Studies PomGen 14-10, Forestry 1 beat Transport 19-14 in division two, Customs 1 defeated IOPP 18-12 in division three and BPNG 2 triumphed over Education 19-13 in division four.
Division five saw PMNEC defeat NJSS 20-17, while PNGSF’s team two won National Procument Commission 16-12 in division six. National Museum gained the division 7 title over Central Province Transport Authority (CPTA) 19-13 and Hiri Koiari won DLIR 25-5 to claim division 8 title.
