THE Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea is still on the hunt for players to make the national squad for international duties next year, says executive officer Nick Daroa.
The federation is preparing for its senior men’s and women’s championships as well as the Under-17 tournament scheduled for next month at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.
Daroa told The National yesterday that those who had missed out on selections last year were encouraged to do their best performance next month to be considered for selection.
“The U17 championships will be held from Sept 11-12 while the seniors will have their national championships from Sept 15-17,” he said.
“Preparations for the national selection tournaments are on track and participating teams are now paying their nomination fees.
“Taking up the slots on the draw are (teams from) Kikori, Baimuru and National Souths Basketball League.
“All players — whether named in the initial train-on squads last December or those who missed out — are encouraged to press for selection.
“We appeal to intending sponsors to come on board to back our programmes.
