THE national men’s football squad will resume training next week under head coach Marcos Gusmao before going into an extended camp in preparation for the Fifa World Cup regional qualifiers in March.
The Brazilian confirmed with The National yesterday that he had completed his post-travel quarantine on Tuesday and was settling in before meeting the squad next week.
With less than three months to prepare his squad for the qualifiers in Qatar from March 14-30, Gusmao is optimistic that he will assemble a strong squad.
“I am still working on training plans for the next camp and I will be trimming the squad from 30 to 23 at the end of February,” the South American said.
“I am looking forward to working with the squad.
“Papua New Guinea players need to be tactical in their decision-making and game play.
“We will be facing New Zealand first and they are physical, so let’s get to work and prepare to meet them.”
