THE University of Papua New Guinea SRC president-elect Immanuel Isaac has urged the Office of Higher Education to process OHE-sponsored students’ airfares on time in line with the university’s academic calendar.
He made the call because in previous years OHE had not provided the tickets on time and most continuing or first year students arrive late for registration resulting on missing out on pre-allocated rooms.
“OHE has not been following the school calendar and sending tickets to students late thus creating inconvenience and now it must learn and send them early,” Issac said.
Isaac said that the first year intake for the university will arrive on Feb 4, according to the school calendar, and orientation will start on Feb 6.
He said that the registration will begin on Feb 8-17 with the classes resuming on Feb 20.
He said that OHE must provide the tickets within this time frame.
Isaac said that is to avoid unnecessary problems – and for students to arrive on time for registration.
“Parents of OHE-sponsored students will not pay for airfare again when the school fee is increased by another 8% because they have to budget to pay the school fee” he said.
He has urged the Office of Higher Education to provide the tickets on time  for students to register and enroll on time.
