FOUR St John’s Ambulance  officials have been bestowed with ranks of order by the Governor-General, Sir Michael Ogio.

Sir Michael, the president of the national St John Council of Papua New Guinea, was dressed in a traditional black, floor-length mantle to perform the investiture ceremony.

Chief Commissioner, John Waingut said the event should improve command and control of the organisation.

“By tradition, the honorary rank of commander is given to head of governance, in this case the chairman of the national St John’s Council, as a mark of courtesy, honour and respect,” he said.

“It enables the chairman to be in uniform and be able to interact with the uniform and non-uniform branches of the St John Ambulance.”

Sir Michael bestowed the rank of honorary commander to the chairman of the National St John Council of PNG, retired judge Mark Sevua.

Courtney Muller was made Chief Officer and received a certificate to serve as commissioner of the ambulance service.

Sir Ramon Thurecht was confirmed as vice chairman of the council and  Dika Peruka was made Commissioner of Blind Service.
