THE St John Ambulance will be carrying out awareness on the importance of calling 111 when there is an emergency.
Commissioner Matt Cannon said the awareness was based on informing the community on the importance of how to deal with emergency cases.
“Our ambulance officers will be going out to the communities to make sure everyone knows how to call the emergency number and when necessary for medical help.”
Cannon urged people to call 111 for an ambulance in cases such as a traumatic injury or sudden collapse.
“The awareness is aimed at informing people about the importance of calling 111 to avoid people transporting those severely injured to the hospital,” Cannon said.
The awareness week was postponed due to Covid-19 but they will be airing the activities that were planned.
Cannon said the awareness week would stress on the ‘lukautim ol ambulens ofisa’.
“We need to send this message to the communities that hurting or obstructing an ambulance officer is not acceptable” he said.
The awareness will be conducted over the next few weeks within the three electorates of Port Moresby.
