DAULO MP Ron Ganarafo is frustrated over the lack of maintenance of a bridge that links a primary school and thousands of people to the main Highlands Highway in Eastern Highlands.
“My district development authority (DDA) has allocated funding to reconstruct the Yamiufa Creek bridge and I thought it was already fixed. However, to my surprise the bridge was never maintained,” Ganarafo said.
“The responsibility was given to district civil works and former district chief executive officer.”
Ganarafo tasked the current chief executive officer Ipa Seke to  find out why no work was done.
The MP was at Yamiufa St Patrick’s Primary School to open a new double classroom he had funded with K250,000 from his district service improvement programme (DSIP) education component.
He said the failure to maintain the bridge was a classic example of public servants failing to do their duties.
He said his DDA had supported 18 schools in Daulo district, including the new Daulo High School.
He said the district spent over K1.5 million anually on  tuition fees of students from Daulo attending tertiary institutions.
He also made a pledge to complete a rural electrification project into Yamiufa village that was incomplete due to lack of funding.
