BUSU Secondary School in Lae, Morobe, was last week blessed with a K74,400 assistance package from State enterprise, PNG DataCo.
The partnership deal signed last week included the presentation of 20 new Lenovo and Acer laptops valued at K32,000, given to the school’s information and community technology department.
The assistance by PNG DataCo came from its Community Service Obligation (CSO) initiative. It also covered free 10Mbps (megabits per second) internet capacity, valued at K32,400 per year and a support waiver on installation charges of K10,000.
DataCo chief executive officer Paul Komboi said the installations were initiated last year and have now been fully commissioned, offering the school internet services (SIS).
“In 2024, DataCo will continue with a Back-to-School internet offer – 100 per cent additional bandwidth, which means the school can now access internet connectivity at a 20Mbps bandwidth capacity.
“The principal and teachers can utilise that to prepare and upskill themselves with advance knowledge and allow students to access learning materials online.”
Komboi said the laptops would facilitate the digital transformation journey for the students and school administrators.
Principal George Noble acknowledged the assistance, making Busu the only school in Morobe with such improved school internet services.
