FIVE police stations in Port Moresby and Lae will benefit from infrastructure development under the Papua New Guinea-Australia Policing Partnership.

The stations are Boroko, Gerehu, Hohola and Town in Port Moresby, and the Lae Police Station.

Australian Federal Police Mission Commander Assistant Commissioner Alan Scott said there were two new buildings being constructed at Boroko, which they would share with the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary.

He said this would be an opportunity for the AFP and RPNGC members to work alongside each other.

“We’ve put new buildings at Gerehu, Hohola and Port Moresby station and very shortly we have an opening ceremony for the two buildings at Hohola. The stations are in desperate need of care,” Scott said.

“Gerehu, in particular, is not in a good standard so that’s the first step. Then we’re going to spend money on fixing up those older buildings to make them better, particularly in that front office where the people come in, making it bigger.

“More seating, more fans and to raise the ceilings. That opening is later in August this year.”

He said in Lae, a new building was being constructed next to the station.

Scott said the AFP programme was more than just providing officers.

It was about building things that were needed for the constabulary.

The Officers’ Mess at the Bomana Police College has been refurbished.
