A 29-YEAR-OLD man was fined K500 by the Mt Hagen District Court yesterday for illegally occupying a private property.
Magistrate Lydia Karre found Mawa Kundi had no good reason to continue occupying the land that his father had given to Steven Opa, an immediate family member.
Karre told Kundi that it was a family matter that needed to be sorted out (amicably).
“Kundi did not respect the village court’s decision and restraining orders issued on him,” Karre said.
Opa had built a trade store on the land which Kundi’s father gave him. Kundi’s father gave it to Opa because he was his brother’s son.
“Kundi thinks that he still owned the land and continued to occupy but the court found him guilty.
“We understand that there are many issues regarding the land where Opa built his trade store.
“This court will not decide on the land ownership.”
