STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects will be the focus at the country’s six national high schools with the goal to produce the country’s best graduates ready for universities.
Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra said this at the start of a two-day workshop on Stem subjects at the Port Moresby National High School (POMNATS) yesterday.
The national high schools are Sogeri (Central), Aiyura (Eastern Highlands), Passam (East Sepik), Wawin (Morobe), Kerevat (East New Britain) and POMNATS (NCD).
Dr Kombra said the country needed to prepare the next generation of leaders, innovators, builders, developers, technocrats and industrialists to take the country to economic prosperity as well as having the skills and knowledge to be able to work anywhere in the world.
He commended Dr Clement Waine for the development of the Stem curriculum and encouraged students to take the opportunity to follow their dreams.
