STAINER Steven and Bosky Nopi bagged a try each to help Port Moresby Suburban Ducks beat Western Flames 10-4 in the Southern Super League at Moresby South Stadium last Thursday.
The four-pointers to Steven (fifth minute) and Nopi (25th) and a conversion by Sedrick Kepas helped Ducks to a 10-0 lead before Flames pulled one back through Tomani Moses to trail 4-10 at halftime.
Ducks prop Joel Tuto Jack was in devastating form as he produced a number of strong hit-ups and line-breaks against the young Flames in a scoreless second half.
The win helped Ducks retain their spot in the top-six.
Meanwhile, Pom Suburban Rugby League president James Paul said the second-tier rugby league competition was an excellent avenue for many upcoming players to showcase their skills.
He said the majority of his players had changed their attitude towards the competition.
“This initiative is great for our players,” Paul said.
“It will help in their development to become better people in their communities.
“I thank league chairman Bagelo Solien and his board for establishing this pathway in an effort to help develop and market players from the region.”
Both sides wore their new uniforms which the league had bought for every team in the National Gaming Control Board Cup-sponsored competition.
