Still waiting for backdate payment

Letters

WHY did the Government create wards if they do not have plans to back them up?
Most councillors are not getting their rightful backdate payments after retiring from service.
I served the people of 5-Mile and 6-Mile settlements in Lae for over 28 years and I am still waiting for my backdate payments.
I raise my this concern because I did not get any feedback from the responsible authorities.
I am from Menyamya and a longtime resident of the city, serving as the ward council until I retired in 2018.
From 2013 till 2018, I was cut off from receiving allowances.
The monthly allowance I receive was K400 and that was not enough, but I endured until I was cut off completely.
Most councillors have received their payments except me.
This has affected my children’s education and our livelihood.
Being a long-serving public servant, I cannot understand why the Government wouldn’t consider my issue.
I am appealing again to the Government and the responsible authorities to take into consideration this issue and assist me.

David Jacob,
Councillor,
Lae Urban Ward 9
