CLASSES at secondary schools in East New Britain have been suspended indefinitely following a fight between students.
Administrator and education board chairman Wilson Matava met with principals and managers of vocational centres on Friday at the Vunapope Diocesan Hall to announce that students caught fighting on the streets would be arrested and charged.
In the past two weeks, students from Kokopo Secondary School, Vunabosco Agro Technical School, Malaguna Technical Secondary School, St Mary’s Vuvu Secondary School had been involved in fights.
“We cannot turn a blind eye on issues affecting our institutions,” he said.
“We need to exercise authority and if you know there are cult practices in your schools, attend to it.
“Innocent students are being victimised and denied the opportunity and freedom to go to school by the minority students involved in such activities.”
Matava said principals and boards of managements had been appointed because of their supervisory and management skills.
He will tell police to arrest any student who misbehave in public.
“I will support schools boards who discipline and terminate them from school,” he said.
