DEPUTY Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa says Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas’ call for Prime Minister James Marape to stop his overseas trips and attend to pressing national issues is very timely.
“Marape (appears) to have no trust in the minister he appointed and is not allowing them to perform their jobs,” he said.
His travel to Central Africa’s Gabon to attend a forest and climate change meeting is unnecessary as he could have delegated his ministers to attend instead.
“Instead of travelling on his overseas speaking tours, Marape needs to take control of his Government and attend to pressing issues facing the nation.
“The fuel crises caused by the nation’s chronic foreign exchange shortage and the hostage crisis are important issues that require the premier’s attention but he has simply gone missing in action.”
Tomuriesa said Marape should realise the importance of his position as a national leader and humble himself by accepting objective criticisms from senior politicians like Sir Peter instead of being very defensive all the time.
Referring to the PM’s remarks at the launching of the Papua LNG front-end engineering and design, Tomuriesa said the private sector was watching and listening carefully to the PM’s every word, and the PM’s recent response in relation to the Puma foreign exchange saga is a case in point.
