Storm cling to 6th spot

THE Acatech Kone Storm maintained their sixth spot on the Port Moresby Rugby Football League ladder by beating Dobo Warriors 12-4 during Sunday’s main match in the A-grade division.
The Storm under skipper and five-eighth Jamie Mavoko posted two unanswered tries against a battered Warriors outfit on Sunday.
Mavoko broke the Warriors defensive line 20 minutes in to send lock forward Alu Kono through for a try with Mavoko converting to see the Storm take a 6-0 lead at halftime.
A determined Dobo side tried hard but lacked consistency in the second half with halves Delta Mark and Peter Faila unable to work their combinations in the backline as handling errors frustrated their offence and killed any momentum.
A set play from the Storm saw centre Nathan Hagua cross over for their second try of the match with Mavoko adding the extras to see them 12 points in front.
Dobo capitalised on a penalty in the last minute with substitute Samuel John scoring a consolation try for 12-4 score at fulltime.
“It was a good win for some part but a scrappy win regarding our attacking,” Storm coach Wilson Mavoko said.
“We had a lot of chances and we missed a lot opportunities that saw a drop a lot of balls on the edges especially when we were trying to run our plays.

  • Why is all PNG clubs have names such as Kone Storms, Gerehu Raiders, Waigani Broncos, ATS Titans etc…?

Are you not proud people? Can’t you name your team has Kone Lightning or Talapia or Aibika or some thing different rather than Storms, Raiders, Broncos etc………………
