Storm interested in Kumul Johnston

Sports

WITH Fijian flyer Suliasi Vunivalu rugby union-bound next season, the Melbourne Storm are keeping a close eye on unwanted South Sydney and Papua New Guinea speedster Alex Johnston.
The Storm are in the market for an outside back after Vunivalu agreed to a two-year deal with the Queensland Reds from next year.
Fellow winger Josh Addo-Carr also faces an uncertain future in Melbourne.
Storm has agreed, in principle, to release Addo-Carr on compassionate grounds, as long as it gets a like-for-like ¬replacement.
Addo-Carr informed Storm late last year that he wanted to return to Sydney to raise his young family.
Addo-Carr fell out with his management, Pacific Sports, late last year after reportedly finding out a fellow State of Origin winger was on about A$200,000 (K486,000) more than him.
Until the feud gets settled, the Blacktown junior cannot negotiate with any Sydney-based teams.
It’s why Melbourne see a premiership-winner like Johnston as a proven signing to boost their outside-back stocks. – News.com.au

  • PNG has a strong and superb local Rugby league programme promoting the game in all 21 provinces but we need part ways to gain exposure for our players. So NRL Australia clubs please at every opportunity give our local and national talents opportunity because we are an exciting and crazy nation about these game in the Pacific apart from you Australians and New Zealanders.
    God bless PNG

  • Talking about local talents, what’s the status of Edne Gabbie at Souths? Is he still there?

  • Thanks for heard that, Melbourne Storm keeps a closer eyes on one of our PNG hero Johnston. Storms gave a greater opportunity to Justin Olam, also the PNG hero and again they still want PNG… Congratulation to both the storm team and PNG hero…Go PNG..

  • PNG has got so many player who are just better than some of the NRL players but not making it to the top, for me I have 2 reasons why: 1. It is pure racism, 2. It is a form of offering better life to its citizens by its government or in other words it’s a social economic development programs for it’s people. Australia is not a genuine partner to PNG and will not be one for years to come.

  • We encourage and build our local players and set up lucrative opportunities for the PNG Hunters to improve skills, playing as team. School boys is a great way forward

  • Regarding Olam in Pete’s Punchline, I have watched closely how the two Cameron’s reacted to Olam when he played his first game. They never appreciate his efforts like his other colleagues. At on time after Munster layed a try Olam ran over to congratulate him with a high five and Munster pretended not to see and ran off the other direction. With the kind of racist treatment I don’t really know how long Olam will last at the Storms.
