United Sisters came from behind to defeat Bears 5-4 in the top of the seventh inning to claim the Port Moresby Women’s A Grade Softball title.

It was a rematch of the 2012 grand final on Saturday at the Bisini Softball Grounds when Port Moresby softball fans almost saw Bears get their revenge as they belted four runs to United Sisters nil in the first six innings.

Bears opened scoring when Dianne Gideon ran home in the bottom of two to lead 1-0.

United Sisters pitchers, Natalie Bart, alongside catcher, Siloru Zale, were unstoppable as they managed to lock the score for the Bears at 1-0 in less than 10 minutes. However, the Bears batting line up in the rest of the match caused pressure on the United Sisters as they became desperate for a home run.

The 1-0 scoreline remained until the bottom of the sixth inning when Bears Janice Soweni, Talitha Tarasomo and Antonia Kinit raced home to take their team 4-0 ahead.

Bears pitcher Quandalyne Vinim stood out with her power house pitching but still could not stop the United Sisters.

United Sisters snapped back quickly in the top of the final 7th inning with five impressive home runs from Nicola Mamia, Claire Wutt, Suluet Tarasomo, Siloru Zale and Georgina Mautu to win the match 5-4.
