Storms make debut in Pom league comp

PORT Moresby rugby league, the premier competition in PNG, will kick off its 2010 season at the Lloyd Robson Oval on Sunday.
The season will feature new team Kone Storms, who will be making their debut in the toughest competition.
Storms, who  have been a surprise package in the Port Moresby rugby league nines competition, will be out at the paddock this weekend in the rugby league 13s challenge.
Veteran campaigner Bal Kamane, who has also represented the city franchise team, Wari Vele Raiders and Monier Broncos in the former SP Cup competition, will be leading his young charges.
Storms comprise of young unemployed youths, especially from the Highlands region and Gulf residing at Ranuguri and Newtown settlements, have taken the PRL stadium by storm in 9s challenge.
Storms first major task on Sunday will be against reigning premiers, Brothers.
Interestingly, Kone Storms player/coach Wilson Mavoko was former Brothers player, who made it to Port Moresby Vipers.
Sleeping giants SBS Butterflies will be up against Kavo West at 4:30pm at the Lloyd Robson Oval.
Other matches played on Sunday will see Hawks take on Royals, Defence face off against Tigers, Souths clash with Paga Panthers.
The other two games will see KAL Magani lock horns with Maiari Eagles and Tarangau will play  Dobo Warriors.
Clubs have also been advised to hand in their affiliation fees of K800 to the PRL officials.
