STREET vending business is booming in Kiunga, Western, with huge demand for the goods and services, a local business man says.

John Ameri, from Eastern Highlands, is a security guard at the Lobire Lodge, in Kiunga, and operates a liquor shop.

Ameri sells can of beer for K10.

“Small businesses in Kiunga will never fail no matter the type of business product or service that one provides or whatever the price they set for their goods and services,” Ameri said.

“Sellers and business people decide on the price. Customers just purchase the item even though prices for goods and services here (Kiunga) are very high compared to other places.

“It is quite difficult for people to move into other places to do shopping given the geographical setting of Kiunga. Tabubil is the closest centre to Kiunga; however, prices for goods and services there are higher compared to Kiunga.

“We have customers coming in all the way from Tabubil to purchase our goods from the supermarket as well.”

Likewise, Joan Moses, from Southern Highlands, had realised the need for meri-blouse in Kiunga.

“I have realised the need for the market for meri-blouses for women residents of Kiunga.

“I do not sew but order from Port Moresby and resell them for K50.”
