‘Strengthen partnerships on climate change’

APEC economies should maintain their spirit of cooperation and partnership to address key issues such as food security and climate change, says Agriculture and Livestock Secretary Dr Vele Pat Ila’ava.
For developing countries like PNG, food security and climate change related to survival and there was a need to strengthen that cooperation and partnership to deal with them, he said.
Ila’ava, who chaired the Policy Partnerships on Food Security (PPFS) meeting in Port Moresby, described the two-day forum as an overwhelming success where issues were discussed amicably and with better understanding of challenges facing food security and climate change.
Speaking at a dinner at the Royal Papua Yacht Club for delegates of PPFS and Ocean Fisheries Working Group (OFWG) at the weekend, Dr Ila’ava said PNG would be looking at Apec economies’ teamwork and assistance.
He said PNG had a lot to offer besides its cultural diversity, tradition and biodiversity in relation to potential for agriculture investment.
Cultural groups from the Highlands, Central and Northern performed at the dinner and created great excitement among the delegates. The secretary thanked the National Fisheries Authority for hosting the dinner.
