A 20-YEAR-OLD Grade 6 student was freed by a committal court in Waigani from a burglary charge due to insufficient police evidence.
Magistrate Paul Puri Nii told Samule Gabi, from Goilala’s Ibi village. “You must work hard to earn a living,” he added.
Gabi told the court that he had learnt so many lessons about life while in prison and he would change.
“I am doing my Grade 6 and I will go back to school and be a good citizen in my community,” he added.
On Jan 23, at about 3am, Gabi and his five peers allegedly broke into a trade store in Gerehu Stage 4, in Port Moresby and carted away about K3,000 worth of store goods and K2,000.
An eyewitness identified a suspect but she was scared and helpless to do anything.
The same suspect was seen drinking with Gabi and was later sighted by the shop owner.
The shop owner informed the police who then arrested Gabi while the other suspect fled.
